Field notes

These field notes are where we track the ground truth of Canadian gambling regulation as it shifts beneath our feet. Every entry here is built from the same four-step method we use everywhere on this site: find the operating company, find the licence, check the register, and work out what actually breaks if something goes wrong. We do not rank operators or tell you which site to choose. We only tell you where a licence comes from, who issued it, and what that means in practice.

The map is not uniform. Ontario runs an open private market under AGCO and iGaming Ontario, while most other provinces still route players through a single lottery-corporation site. Alberta is mid-transition toward its own private market, which means its rules are in motion. These notes capture those differences as they appear, province by province, so you can see the roots of any operator you encounter.

Every field note here follows the same four-step check laid out on how we check: find the operating company, find the licence, place it against the reader’s province, and write down what could not be checked.
